About me
I write software because I like solving real problems for real people. I've been doing it for forty years — the tools changed many times, that never did.
It started in a driving school
For twenty-six years, from 1986 to 2012, I ran a driving school in Almodôvar, in the south of Portugal. I looked after the teaching, the organisation and the administration — and, since there was no software that did what we needed, I wrote my own: programs to train students and evaluate them before the exam.
That is where I learned what still guides me today: software is only worth something if it makes someone's day easier. In the middle of it all I went back to school and studied computer engineering at the School of Technology and Management in Beja (1993–1995).
A second career in Geneva
When I arrived in Geneva I went to work for a concrete transport company, hired by Pro Beton SA to deliver its concrete. For that company I built a system to manage deliveries and organise invoicing. Along the way I noticed that Pro Beton itself had nothing to manage the deliveries from its concrete plants — so I built that too, together with my son, Artur Ataíde: APIBETON.
That is when I decided to make software my profession. I went back to studying at Nomades Advanced Technologies (2021–2022), where I earned certifications as a web programmer and as a Python software engineer, and I kept learning on my own — Node.js, React, React Native, Flutter, MySQL, unit testing, even smart contracts.
Web, mobile and AI
Then came the companies that let me work with the technologies I enjoy the most:
- 2024 DEclix — a web application with a NestJS backend and a Next.js frontend, plus Google Apps Script automations that took manual work off the team's internal workflows.
- 2023 GBNews — JournalistTools, a web platform and mobile app that turns recorded interviews into text, with sentiment analysis and key points; Eyes, a mobile app for blind people that describes their surroundings out loud and locates them by voice command; and ExpertCoaching, a platform that automates training and coaching, from CV analysis to action plans. Python, Flask, Flutter and the OpenAI API.
- 2022–2023 it3π — business applications as a freelancer, with React, Next.js, Node.js and Flask: responsive interfaces, secure backends and automation of internal processes.
- 2018–2022 Concrete transport · Pro Beton SA — a delivery and invoicing management system for the transport company and, with my son Artur Ataíde, APIBETON, which manages deliveries from Pro Beton's concrete plants.
What I do today
Today I build my own projects, end to end — idea, architecture, code, documentation and launch — almost always with AI, as a tool and as a subject. codeTAC shows what an app's code does, click by click; TuxAide answers Linux questions right in the terminal; LocalAlibiScan tells you what every project on your disk is and proves it with file and line.
They have one idea in common: AI helps you go faster, but someone still has to understand and answer for what is shipped.
How I work
- I start with the problem. I analyse first, plan second; the technology comes after.
- I'm never done learning. I've been through every shift since the first personal computers, and each one sent me back to school. Today my thirst for learning is greater than ever, and I keep up with every step of the field's evolution.
- I deliver. I like seeing things in use — robust, maintainable, and built for the person who will use them.
I speak Portuguese (my native language), French and English.
